Exhibition to Feature Local and International Art

As summer comes to a close and the Capitol Centre opens back up, the WKP Kennedy Gallery would like to invite the public to experience one of our two upcoming fall exhibitions: our International Postcard Project exhibition.

Curated by our own gallery Director Alix Voz, the show consists of postcards mailed to the gallery; from right here in North Bay to Japan, and everywhere in between.

We asked people to send us postcards within the theme of what home means to them, whether culturally, socially or creatively. We’ve received postcards from all over the world, including Japan, Germany, Italy, Great Britain, the Netherlands and more.

However, the majority of the works we’ve received come from locals, including children eager to create their own art.

The gallery held a workshop with the children who attended the North Bay Museum’s summer camp, and throughout the summer attended community events with a postcard-making station set up for the public to participate in.

Some of these events included the Bay Block Party, the fourth annual Children’s Festival, and the National Indigenous People’s Day Celebration.

In addition, we’ve received postcards from summer camps in Huntsville, Catholic schools in Sudbury and retired living centres in Kitchener.

Those who attend the Gateway City Brewery Blues Fest Friday will be able to get a sneak peak of the exhibition before it’s official opening.

The exhibit will officially open on Sept. 12 and will share its opening reception with our upcoming French Emerging Artists exhibition Sept. 27 from 7 to 9 p.m., just in time for the Downtown Gallery Hop.

The show will close Nov. 23.
