The Capitol Centre’s goal is to bring individuals and the community together through the world of arts. A volunteer’s job is to ensure the safety and security of our patrons and to act as tactful ambassadors of goodwill to the public attending performances and events.
There are lots of reasons to become a volunteer at the Capitol Centre:
- Get involved in the arts "behind the scenes” and the opportunity to view a variety of shows and concerts at no cost.
- Gain work experience to enhance your resume, explore new skills and interests.
- Help support a non-profit organization and important historical landmark.
- As a student, get the required volunteer hours for graduation.
Time spent at the Capitol Centre can provide a whole new skill set by learning to work independently, increasing your adaptability and quick thinking. You may also build on your confidence and improve your communication skills, all whilst working in a team environment of like-minded individuals.
As the public face of the organization, volunteers can start as young as 14 years old, but some positions require volunteers to be 18+. The opportunities offered are divided into 3 main avenues of volunteering:
Bingo
As a non-profit organization, we rely on fundraising as a major source of revenue. Bingo volunteers play a vital role in fundraising for the Centre. Our Bingo slot is every other 2 weeks on a Thursday evening at Blue Sky Bingo Hall, and we rotate teams of volunteers. Bingo teams consist of two volunteers, one of which is a Team Captain. Bingo volunteers must be 18+.
FOH (Front-of-House)
FOH volunteering refers to all volunteer positions that take place in the Betty Speers Theatre. This includes (but is not limited to) Ushers, Concession sellers, Popcorn makers, Ticket Takers, 50/50 sellers and Merchandisers. FOH volunteers interact with our patrons and get an up-close view of our performances.
WKP Kennedy Gallery
Volunteers work with the Gallery Director/Curator and other Gallery staff to assist with rotating exhibits and special events. Duties include helping with exhibit rotations, convening receptions, and monitoring the Gallery during business hours. WKP Kennedy Gallery volunteers get a chance to immerse themselves in the world of art in a patron-facing role.
