Gallery to Honour Past Staffer, Volunteer

By | October 17, 2019

The arts community of North Bay lost one of its greatest supporters, Sheila Lavack, on Aug. 12.

With her work in the past as both a gallery assistant and (post-retirement) a volunteer, Lavack dedicated more than 30 years of her life to the WKP Kennedy Gallery.

Born in Scotland on Dec. 6, 1925, Lavack came to North Bay in 1971 with her family and put down roots. She was an integral part of the gallery’s beginning and always brought a sense of curiosity and love to every exhibition that came through its doors.

Lavack made time in her life to still come out and see the new exhibitions, even after her time as a volunteer. Her excitement was contagious. Everyone who attended a gallery opening reception over the past 30 years knows of Sheila’s warm hospitality and fantastic punch.

On Saturday, the WKP Kennedy Gallery will host a reception to honour Lavack’s life and the years she contributed here. Share stories and enjoy a moment of celebration for a woman who was a gem in the local artistic community. All are welcome to attend the reception, which will take place from 1-4 pm and calls for casual attire. As per her request, donations to support the gallery in Lavack’s memory are welcomed.
