Nipissing University’s annual FAVA juried exhibition opened to the public last Friday.

Friends, supportive family and members of the arts community came out to experience the works created by students from all four years.

Among the highlights of the night were the awards given to students Anna Grace Johnstone for ‘It is 2 in the Morning’ and Josie Morin for ‘The Fondest Memories.’

Want to see the winning pieces? Check out the photo album for the event on the WKP Kennedy Gallery’s Facebook page, or just come in to see for yourself. The exhibition runs until Feb. 8.

If you’re looking for something fun to do this weekend, drop by the gallery on Saturday to celebrate great new short films.

Now in its fourth year, the Deep Cut Film Festival brings “cinema from the edge, the fringe frames that need to be seen and shared.” Previously held in Kitchener, the festival features 23 short films that will be screened starting at 2:30 pm.

The films will be broken up into two segments — the afternoon show from 2:30-4:30 pm and the evening show from 7:30-9:30 pm, with a 10-minute intermission halfway through each. Doors open at 2 pm for the afternoon and 7 pm for the evening, featuring a pay-what-you-can admission fee. For tickets and more information on the festival, visit www.deepcutfilm.com.

Looking for more fun at the WKP Kennedy Gallery this month? North Bay’s Art Battle takes place on Jan. 30. Don’t miss one of the coolest events of the year. Doors open at 7 pm and the battle starts an hour later. Get your tickets now at www.artbattle.com.
