Announcement: Cory Marks: Homecoming

By Kerri Morin | June 19, 2024

Following his performance of his song Snowbirds, backed by the 22 Wing Band during the Opening Ceremonies at Armed Forces Day 2024, Cory Marks announced that he will be taking the Betty Speers Theatre’s stage for a knock-out Homecoming show! Marks and his band will be performing a full set, including a special opening act, on Friday, Sept. 20 at 7:30 pm.

Cory Marks can sometimes feel like an outsider, a North Bay, Ontario native, former hockey player (and lifelong fan) who dreamed of one day flying his own plane, before sitting behind a drum kit like his idol, fellow Canadian Rush’s Neil Peart. Marks is taking up his territory, equally divided between arena-rock and roots country. It’s a blend that’s proven to be a crowd-pleaser for Marks, joining together diverse metal/Americana audiences on tours with Toby Keith, Five Finger Death Punch, ZZ Top, Travis Tritt and Brantley Gilbert, while joining Nickelback on the main stage at the annual Boots and Hearts festival outside Toronto last summer.

Over the last two years, his breakthrough country-rock fusion has paved the way for the success of Morgen Wallen, Zach Bryan, Hardy, and Bailey Zimmerman. Marks’ successful debut, Who I Am, included “Outlaws & Outsiders,” which went Top 10 at U.S. rock radio and was the first Canadian country in history to hit #3 in Germany, eventually reaching certified platinum in Canada and Gold in the US with over 160 million global streams on the debut single, featuring Five Finger Death Punch’s Ivan Moody, Mötley Crüe guitarist Mick Mars and country star Travis Tritt. That was followed by three EPs, including the latest, 2022’s six-song I Rise, which included “Burn It Up,” featured on Better Noise’s The Retaliators Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (where Marks also had an onscreen cameo). His most recent single heard often on Country 90.5 CFCH was also a Top 10 hit on Sirius XM Canadian country radio earlier this year.

To date, Cory’s songs have garnered a total of more than 250 million global streams, and performance slots at over 35 major music festivals in Canada and the U.S. In early 2024 Cory crossed his native land for the 7th time since 2014 on the “Liquored Up” tour starring Canadian country icon Aaron Pritchett and rising star Matt Lang with 32 stops coast to coast.

“I love rock and I love country. I tried to sequence the new album as if it were a live show, interspersing the slower, acoustic songs in the middle, then build toward the climax, making them fit front to back.” With new music coming out this summer starting in June, Cory will be releasing a brand-new album in October with more special guests and features!

Marks will also be hosting a contest for a local artist to be the opening act for his Sept. 20 concert. Follow Cory Marks on social media for more details.

“I’m excited to be coming back home to play North Bay’s biggest and most legendary music venue to end our summer,” says Marks. “It is literally a dream come true, I’ve watched so many great bands and artists play this stage growing up and now coming back as a Capitol Centre headliner will be a special night and moment in my life both personally and professionally. I’m excited to see a packed house and I’m sure many of the faces that helped me or pushed me to get this far over the course of the last 12-13 years playing music and my life growing up right here at home in North Bay!”

“We are thrilled to be working with Cory for his homecoming performance,” says Dan Misturada, Programming Director at the Capitol Centre. “This has been in the works for a long time and it really means a lot to the Capitol Centre to support Cory, celebrate his success, and to help motivate the next generation of local talent to follow in his footsteps.”
